Rear Projection Scrim.

Chameleon™ Projection Scrim

... A Better Projection Surface that Costs Far Less.

  • Front Projection or Rear Projection Scrim.-- A stellar surface allowing more flexibility than classic projection screens at a fraction of the cost.

  • Projection Scrim Wall Surface.-- Walls can curve, bend or take on a ripple shape, and still be used for front or rear projection. You can cut windows in them. You can cut irregular shapes, like circular projection scrims. Note: curving a projection surface can be a way to increase gain.

  • Matte Projection Surface Gives a Wide Consistant Viewing Angle.-- Matte surface allows viewing from almost anywhere in front of the scrim. Gain (a measure of viewing brightness) approaches 0.9 in lighter colors and white at any angle. Colors will not shift, and intensity will not change from different angles (like they can in some high gain screens). The image is uniform, bright and sharp unlike other scrims.

  • Stage Scrim Used for Projection.-- Front or rear projection of images and scenery (even with printed scrims!). You still retain all the other scrim's special effects capabilities: Shadow screens; Silhouette screen; Full stage reveal effect--making people/objects appear and disappear with a simple light change. Show me how: Scrim Effects.

  • Sound Can Pass Through Projection.-- Audio systems can be behind this acoustically transparent screen. Sound is not colored and passes through. This material doesn't only "approach the quality" of sound transmission of a high quality grill cloth...it IS a high quality grill cloth.

  • Simple Portable & Adaptable Projection Surface.-- Extremely light weight and easy to hang. Flexible can bend to curve or go around corners. This screen doesn't need to be tensioned to keep its shape.

  • Quick Ship!-- Order online below or call  : 1-800-359-2964 or 1-812-579-5063 outside the USA

  • 14 Beautiful Projection Colors.--Yes this scrim is still effective for projection in dark colors. We still recommend light colors (to retain the whitest white in your projection image), but you can use dark colors. Grey is popular because it can allow more deeper black and grey colors within a projection.

  • Large Sizes Screens.-- 15' natural width, your length. Retail Prices Start from: $ 41.00 per yard (15' wide). Even larger is possible too... we commonly produce projection scrims/surfaces 20 feet high by 47 feet wide. For these sizes please call to place your order.

  • How Far Away Does the Projector Need to Be? The distance that the projector needs to be from the scrim in order to get the image the size you wish can be estimated. Try our calculator!

The distance the projector needs to be away from the screen is called the Throw Distance. This distance is determined by the projector that you use (more specifically by the lens of the projector) and the width of the projection image that you want to get. Every lens of a projector has a Throw Ratio, or range of Throw Ratios.

The formula is Throw Distance= Throw Ratio x Width of Image

How Far Back is A Screen Easy Visible? Where can I place my farthest seat? Try our calculator!

The quick rule of thumb is your farthest seat should be at a distance of 6 times the height of the screen.

Distance between screen and farthest seat in feet: Feet

*All calculations are rough estimates intended to guide customers in preliminary research. Consult your projector specifications to calculate more accurately.

How Big a Projector Do I Need? Projection strength is determined by screen size, room size or how close you can place the projector, amount of ambient light and of course projector strength. Projector strength is measured in 'lumens'. So how strong a projector do you need?

For a very small screen up to 8 foot wide, a 2000 lumen projector (with a SVGA resolution) should work. For a slightly larger screen up to 12 foot, 3000 lumens with an XGA resolution should work. For a 16 foot image shoot for 4000 lumens with XGA. For larger, find a projector in excess of 4000 lumens. These sizes assume a space with good control of ambient lighting. Always check the projector manual or specs if in doubt.

"What was great was that the material gave the projected video an ethereal quality, like it was suspended in space, an added bonus was that the incredible textures of the material made some fascinating spill over images that added to the whole experience."-- Lance Austin Olsen

    Format or Shape
    of Projection Screens

The 'format' of the projection is the ratio of width of the screen to height. There are three common formats:
    • NTSC/Full Screen--4:3 ratio. A standard projected TV or computer screen will match this format.
    • Widescreen--16:9 ratio. New release DVDs are released in this format, as are HDTV and movie screens.
    • Square--1:1 ratio. Square format is common for a standard overhead projector in a classroom.
If you are projecting scenery within a theater you might not be matching these formats and may not need to.
